Lunar for iPhone, iPad & Apple Watch

Privacy Policy

Effective 25 July 2026 · Aphelion Engineering Pty Ltd

Aphelion Engineering Pty Ltd does not collect, receive, retain on its systems, sell, or use personal data from Lunar for advertising or tracking. Lunar has no accounts, advertising, analytics, tracking, crash-reporting SDK, developer-operated server, or third-party software. Optional features can communicate directly with Apple as described below; Aphelion Engineering Pty Ltd does not receive or retain those requests or responses.

Astronomical calculations run locally on the device. If you choose to use your current location, the coordinates remain in local app storage and are available to Lunar’s own widgets and paired Apple Watch so they can calculate local events. Lunar may also send those coordinates directly to Apple’s MapKit service to retrieve a city or place name for the current location. If you enable the optional cloud-cover feature, the selected coordinates are also sent directly to Apple’s Weather service as described below. Aphelion Engineering Pty Ltd does not receive or retain these requests or responses. You can instead search for a city or use the built-in Greenwich location.

Optional cloud-cover information uses Apple Weather. When you enable it, the selected coordinates are sent directly to Apple’s Weather service under Apple’s terms. Aphelion Engineering Pty Ltd does not receive or retain that request or response. MapKit is used for current-location city naming and city search. Current-location naming may send the coordinates supplied by your device directly to Apple’s MapKit service, which returns matching place information. City search sends the text you type directly to MapKit, which returns matching places. Lunar stores the resolved or chosen place locally; Aphelion Engineering Pty Ltd does not receive it. Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store.

Notification schedules, settings, entitlement state, and Spotlight entries are stored on your devices. If you start the seven-day trial, Lunar stores the trial start, expiration, device-time guard, and best-effort one-per-device eligibility record locally as a ThisDeviceOnly Keychain item, then shares the dated active or expired state only with Lunar’s own widgets and paired Apple Watch. Trial duration is evaluated from device system time and is seven days under normal system time; it is not a server-timed or tamper-proof elapsed-time entitlement. The trial is not a subscription, creates no charge or automatic billing, and does not contact an Aphelion Engineering server. Lunar uses local notifications only and has no push-notification server. Motion data used by the Sky view is processed on the device and is not retained.

You control these features. You can switch cloud cover off in Lunar, replace or reset the saved location, and revoke location, motion, or notification permission in Apple Settings. Uninstalling Lunar removes its locally stored settings and cached data from the device, subject to Apple’s normal device backup behavior. The device-only Keychain eligibility record may remain after uninstall and is used to prevent another trial on a best-effort basis. Apple retains App Store purchase records under Apple’s terms so a purchase can be restored after reinstalling.
