I paid before and it’s asking me to unlock again
Open Settings › Lunar Unlock › Restore Purchase. The unlock is a one-time purchase tied to your Apple Account, so it restores for free on any device signed in to that account. If you’re offline, connect to the internet and try again — restoring needs to reach the App Store once.
What does the unlock include?
The free tier is the live Moon (Today), the Sky view, a Home Screen widget, and full- and new-moon notifications. The one-time unlock adds the Calendar and Almanac, every other widget and StandBy, all Apple Watch complications, the Live Activity, the complete notification set, the alternate app icons, and time-travel beyond a week. There is no subscription.
Location & times
My times say “Greenwich”
Lunar shows times for Greenwich until you set a location — it never nags you with the system prompt. Tap the banner on the Today screen, or open Settings › Location, and either allow location access or search for your city.
Do I have to share my location?
No. You can search for a city instead, or leave the default. Lunar works fully offline, and your location — if you do grant it — never leaves your device. See our privacy policy.
Widgets & StandBy
My widget isn’t updating
Widgets refresh on iOS’s own schedule and at each phase boundary. If one looks stale, remove it and add it back to force a refresh. Widgets compute locally, so they keep working with no signal.
The moon looks faint in StandBy Night Mode
That’s the system’s red night tint. Lunar marks the disc so it stays legible under the tint rather than vanishing — if anything looks wrong, make sure you’re on the latest version.
Notifications
I’m not getting moon notifications
Check Settings › Notifications in Lunar to pick which events you want, then make sure Lunar is allowed to send notifications in iOS Settings › Notifications › Lunar. They’re computed on your device and precise to the minute.
Apple Watch
The watch app shows the wrong place
Your location syncs from your iPhone. Open Lunar on the phone once while the watch is nearby; after the first sync the watch computes everything on its own.
Accuracy
How accurate is Lunar, really?
Core astronomy outputs are checked against the appropriate independent source: JPL Horizons, the U.S. Naval Observatory, NASA GSFC, or NOAA. The full methodology — metrics, sources, tolerances and case counts — is on our accuracy page.
