Torrens: Compare Homes for iOS & iPadOS

Privacy Policy

Effective 14 July 2026

Torrens is built privacy-first. On the App Store, Torrens declares "Data Not Collected" — Aphelion Engineering runs no servers, receives none of your data, and has no way to see the campaigns, properties, numbers, or profiles you create in the app.

1. Introduction

Torrens: Compare Homes ("Torrens", "the app") is built so that the information you put into it stays in your hands. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Aphelion Engineering Pty Ltd (ABN 19 697 870 812), the Australian software studio that makes Torrens.

Torrens is a native tool for iPhone and iPad that helps Australian property buyers do arithmetic on figures and thresholds they enter themselves. It is general information only — not financial, tax, or legal advice. This policy explains, in plain English, what the app handles, where that information lives, and the very limited role we play.

2. What the app handles and where it is stored

Everything you enter into Torrens is created and held on your own device (and, if you turn on iCloud sync, in your own private iCloud) — never on our servers. When you build a purchase "campaign", the app may store information such as:

  • Campaign name and budget cap
  • Buyer profile: buyer type, first-home-buyer status, foreign-purchaser status, marginal tax rate, deposit and cash available, equity use, and target LVR
  • Candidate properties you add
  • Your own stress-test thresholds and assumptions
  • The calculation results Torrens produces from those inputs

Some of this is personal and financially sensitive information you have entered yourself. It is your data, under your control.

Where it lives. This information is stored on your device. If you turn on iCloud sync, Apple stores a copy in your own private iCloud database (Apple's CloudKit private database) so it can sync between your own Apple devices. In short: your data stays on your device and, if you enable it, in your private iCloud — and it is never sent to Aphelion. We cannot access your private iCloud data.

A small amount of app configuration is also kept on your device using standard iOS storage: an onboarding flag, your appearance setting, and your defaults for new campaigns. This configuration is kept on your device.

3. What we do not collect

To be explicit about the "Data Not Collected" posture:

  • We do not collect your campaign, property, buyer-profile, assumption, or calculation data. There are no Aphelion servers, and nothing is sent to Aphelion.
  • We do not use any advertising SDK, third-party analytics SDK, or tracking SDK.
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites, and the app contacts no tracking domains.
  • We do not sell your data — we don't have it to sell.

4. Apple services

Torrens performs only two kinds of network activity, both through Apple:

  • StoreKit (in-app purchase). If you buy the one-off "Torrens Unlock", Apple processes the purchase through the App Store. Torrens does not receive your payment-card details — Apple handles payment.
  • CloudKit (your private sync). If you enable iCloud sync, Apple syncs your data through your private CloudKit database between your own devices. This includes silent push notifications that simply carry CloudKit change notifications so your devices know when to sync.

In providing these services, Apple may process account, purchase, device, and service information under Apple's own terms and privacy policy. That processing is between you and Apple; it is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not receive that information.

5. Files you share

Torrens lets you get information out of the app when you choose to:

  • .torrens campaign file export. You can export a campaign as a .torrens file and choose where it goes.
  • PDF report export. You can export a broker-ready PDF report and choose the recipient.
  • Share Sheet "Add to Torrens". When you explicitly tap "Add to Torrens" from another app, the listing title and URL you shared are staged in the app's private App Group until Torrens consumes the item or it expires. The extension does not fetch the URL or send it anywhere.

Exported .torrens files and PDF reports can contain financial and property information. Once you export or share a file, you choose the recipient and destination, and that file leaves our control (and never was in it). If you later want it gone, you must delete it separately at its destination — deleting a campaign in the app does not reach copies you have already exported elsewhere.

6. Your control and deletion

You are in control of your data at all times:

  • Delete a campaign. Deleting a campaign removes it from the app's data store. If iCloud sync is active, that deletion is eligible to sync through CloudKit to your other devices.
  • Turn off iCloud sync. You can disable iCloud sync so that new changes stay only on the device you are using. Data already synced remains in your private iCloud (and on your other devices) until you delete it there — see "Delete everything" below and your device's iCloud settings.
  • Delete exported files. Delete any .torrens files or PDFs at the destination you sent them to — those are separate from the app.
  • Delete everything. Removing the app deletes its on-device data. To also remove synced data, manage or delete Torrens data in your iCloud settings.

7. Children

Torrens is not directed at children. It is a general-audience tool intended for adults dealing with property-purchase finances, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone (including children) — because the app does not collect user data at all.

8. Your privacy rights (Australia)

Australians have rights under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and Australia's privacy regulator is the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC). Because Torrens does not collect your personal information — there are no Aphelion servers and we hold none of your app data — there is, in practice, very little for us to access, correct, or delete on your behalf. Your data sits on your device and, if you enabled it, in your own private iCloud, where you control it directly (see Section 6).

If you have a privacy question or concern about Torrens, you can contact us at bijan@aphelionengineering.com.au and we will help where we are able. If you have a privacy complaint, contact us first and we will respond. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the OAIC (oaic.gov.au).

If you use Torrens from outside Australia, please note that the app is designed and operated from Australia and this policy is written with Australian law in mind; the same "we hold none of your data" position applies wherever you are.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time — for example, if the app changes or to keep the wording clear and accurate. When we do, we will revise the effective date shown at the top of this page and publish the updated version at aphelionengineering.com.au/torrens/privacy. The effective date tells you when the current version took effect; your continued use of Torrens after that date means the updated policy applies.
